Suncoast Voices for Children was founded in 2004 by a group of concerned
child advocates,
many of whom were volunteer Guardians ad Litem (GALs).
They saw that
the vulnerable
children involved in the dependency system
had many unmet needs and wanted to assist them.
We are the only non profit who works on the front end to help keep children
out of the
Dependency system. To accomplish this we work with the Sheriff's
Department Child
Protection Investigators to provide items necessary to keep
children from entering Foster Care.
Sometimes simply providing a child a bed
will keep them in a stable home.
Once children have been removed from their home and are in the 'System', we
work with their
Case Manager and Guardian ad Litem to make meet their needs.
When these children are removed, many leave home with nothing but the
clothes on their backs.
Some children removed from their homes are cared for by non-relatives who
receive no State funds.
Even the children in the Foster Care System do not have the benefit of
activities such as sports,
scouting, marching band,
clubs, music/dance
lessons, or a bicycle.
